First time user needs help in converting AVI files

hi. i have AVI movie files on my laptop and i want to watch them on my PSP-3000. i just want to know:

1. to which format can i convert my AVI files to?

2. what "profile" of Mpeg-4 do i need to convert it to as there were many choices to choose from on psp Video 9.

You would be ok with just using the default, which is:
MPEG-4 AVC 320x240 786kbps Stereo/128kbps
I'm sure you could also go with the higher resolutions if you want, but you're gonna get an incread in the file size too.

or you could even use the default for PS3 and that will work on a PSP as well.
MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 2048kbps Stereo/160kbps

If you want to experiment to find the right combination of file size and quality you are pleased with, take a small video file (around 5mb) and convert it using different profiles. The one that has the quality you like (with video AND audio) along with an acceptable file size should be the one you make the default.
