Discover Auckland City Tour Review

If you are looking for a quick tour around the city of Auckland and you don’t have a car then the Discover Auckland city tour may be for you. The tour starts at 8:45am in downtown Auckland but there is free hotel pickup service before then to bring you downtown. Hotel pickup is offered to a select bunch of hotels so you should check this list before purchasing a tour ticket. The tour costs $63.00 NZD and lasts 3 hours.

The tour bus is quite nice and is just like a greyhound bus. While taking you from sight to sight, the driver of the bus talks about the history of Auckland and gives background on each sight. First they take you both ways over the Auckland Harbour Bridge to get a view of the Auckland Harbour. Next they take you through the viaduct basin and make a stop allowing you to get a ground level view of the Harbour. Next the tour takes you through downtown Auckland and then up to the peak of Mt Eden which is the highest natural point in Auckland at 196m and is an inactive volcano. Mt Eden offers an excellent view of the entire city of Auckland and both the Kaipara and Manukau harbours. Next, the tour takes you to Parnell Village, one of Auckland’s boutique shopping streets. The tour stops here for a half hour before heading on to Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World.

You can choose to either see Kelly Tarlton’s for an additional fee or head back to downtown to be dropped off at your hotel. If you do stay and visit Kelly Tarlton’s, then the bus will come back a few hours later to pick you up and drop you off at your hotel.
